Belmont University Gets Schooled At CTS University
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 by Mike Taylor
CTS Audio recently conducted an intense two day training course customized for Belmont University’s Curb Event Center staff. The classes were led by CTS Audio Engineers Ed Crippen and Jon Schwarz and included complete training sessions on Smaart and London Architect software. “The course is designed to equip sound engineers to confidently accomplish their job with greater success and less frustration”, commented Ed Crippen, course director for Smaart Training.
The first day of classes took place at CTS Audio’s training room and focused on how to tune loudspeakers using Smaart Version 6 and the guiding principles of measurement in a live sound environment.
Day Two was spent onsite at the Curb Center giving the Belmont staff ‘hands-on learning’ for their own JBL VerTec 4887dp rig which they purchased from CTS Audio 2 years earlier. Having added more staff to their growing audio team, the Belmont crew wanted to get everyone up to speed on best practices and the proper ways to tune and use the VerTec rig. “Teaching engineers in their own environment is absolutely priceless,” said Jon Schwarz. “It gives them the chance to experience and learn first-hand about the gear they will actually be working with and that is a lesson that no text book can teach.”
CTS Audio offers additional classes beyond Smaart and London Architect Software. If you or your staff are interested in participating in any future classes or having our seasoned expert engineers customize a course to fit your system, email us for more information at classes@ctsuniversity.com.

CTS Audio welcomes Brooks Abbott to the team. A graduate of Belmont University, Brooks’s passion for audio began in his Raleigh, NC church at the age of 16, and has grown dramatically since he moved to Nashville in 2003. Brooks toured for over four years with Michael W. Smith and is currently in his second season as System Tech for Women of Faith. When Brooks isn’t on the road or in the shop, he enjoys spending time with friends and family and is considered a fantasy football fanatic.
