Amy Grant recorded her latest album before a live audience at Bass Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. It was where it all started for her back in 1978 and it was only fitting for her to present her nearly 30 year history to her fans again in Ft. Worth. CTS provided the live support needed for this project with Russ Long at Front of House and Weston Smith on Monitors. Yamaha PM1D vII consoles were selected for both FOH and Monitors.
Bass Hall is a unique concert hall serving both Symphony presentations as well as pop concerts. The venue uses variable acoustics that were designed into the room that allow for various RT times appropriate to the music style.
CTS supplied their JBL VT4888 VerTec line array system for the mains as well as 4880 Subs which were flown along side the main arrays. JBL VRx 932LA speakers were utilized to cover the off axis box seating.

CTS Senior Consultant, Ed Crippen designed the system for the event and controlled the system remotely using CTS custom control software on Soundweb London processors. Final analysis was done through SIA Smaart Live and of course the combined ears of both Ed and Russ. "This room is amazing the way the acoustics can be controlled. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but Amy and her band sound beautiful as well. I'm really pleased with the results", said Crippen.
Weston Smith, CTS Senior Engineer, relied on In-Ear systems for the dynamic band and Amy. Both Sennheiser RF systems and Shure hardwired units delivered the mixes required. "The players are great musicians and are used to the studio. With the PM1D, I'm able to get the mixes I need and great stereo separation all while stepping through scene to scene," he said.
For the concert portion of the DVD, Amy brought the audience into her living room---well actually as close as they could get as she brought her sofa from home, the picture that hangs above that sofa and other items from the living room of the house she shares with husband Vince Gill and their family. “I feel like this project is neatly marked by a long-standing relationship between a singer/songwriter and the audience, and I think you feel that when you watch it,” she says. “Any artist/audience relationship develops over a period of decades. It’s not about a particular song. It’s not about a big presentation. It’s about familiarity. It’s less about presentation and more about shared experience.”
From this sound company's perspective and from her fans, Amy Grant is all about sharing experiences and touching lives. CTS couldn't be prouder to be a part of her career.
